Dura-Base (Light) 800 Composite Ground Mat

SKU
GM876800

Dura-Base (Light) 800 composite ground mat in single-piece, compression-moulded HDPE, 2440 x 4270 x 102mm (8 x 14ft). At 397kg it is lighter than the 454kg standard Dura-Base mat, with the same 40kg/cm² (600psi) compressive strength. Reversible, for temporary roadways, access routes and working platforms.

The Dura-Base (Light) 800 is a composite ground mat in single-piece, compression-moulded HDPE, made to a patented formulation. It weighs 397kg against 454kg for the standard Dura-Base mat. The 2440 x 4270 x 102mm (8 x 14ft) footprint, the 8.45m² usable surface and the 40kg/cm² (600psi) compressive strength are the same, so the two mats compare directly. The lighter version suits contractors and hire fleets where weight per load and lifting capacity on site set the limits.

Each mat is 57kg lighter, which adds up across a full load of mats and across a fleet. It also keeps individual lifts further from the capacity of the excavator or telehandler. Both versions still need mechanical handling.

  • Size: 2440 x 4270 x 102mm (8 x 14ft)
  • Usable surface: 8.45m² per mat
  • Weight: 397kg (standard Dura-Base mat: 454kg)
  • Compressive strength: 40kg/cm² (600psi)
  • Reversible, with two usable faces
  • Non-absorbent HDPE that can be washed down and decontaminated between sites
  • 100% recyclable material
  • Cold weather performance down to -34.4°C

Construction and cleaning

The mat spreads wheel and track loads over its area to protect the surface and subgrade, subject to ground conditions. It does not reinforce the ground beneath. Because both faces can be used, a mat can be turned over when one side wears, which extends its service life.

Unlike timber mats, HDPE does not absorb water or fluids. The surface can be washed down and decontaminated between sites, which helps limit the transfer of soil and contaminants from one job to the next.

Typical uses

The mat is used as a temporary roadway or trackway for construction, infrastructure, utilities and industrial projects. Typical jobs include access routes over soft or uneven ground, cable and pipeline corridors, site compounds, laydown areas and working platforms. Platforms for heavy plant are temporary works, so layouts should be checked with the temporary works coordinator. Where a thinner large-format track mat is enough, a 3000 x 2500 x 40mm mat is the lighter-duty option.

How much lighter is it than the standard Dura-Base mat?

This mat weighs 397kg and the standard Dura-Base mat weighs 454kg. The footprint and compressive strength are the same. At 397kg it still needs lifting equipment.

What does the usable surface of 8.45m² mean?

The overall footprint of each mat is 2440 x 4270mm. The usable surface per mat once laid is 8.45m².

What load can the mat carry?

No tonnage rating is stated for this mat. The published figure is a compressive strength of 40kg/cm² (600psi). What a roadway or platform can carry depends on the ground and the plant, so confirm layouts for heavy machinery with your temporary works coordinator.

Can the mats be reused between sites?

Yes. The HDPE is non-absorbent, so the mats can be washed down and decontaminated between jobs. Both faces are usable, so a mat can be turned over.

What is the lowest working temperature?

The mat has been used in temperatures down to -34.4°C. Ask the supplier for the upper temperature limit before specifying it for hot conditions.
