The System S fall arrest safety net gives collective protection beneath work at height and is manufactured to BS EN 1263-1. It is made from 5mm knotless polypropylene with a 100mm mesh, so operatives can move freely across the work area without being clipped on to a harness.

  • Material: 5mm high-tenacity polypropylene twine
  • Construction: knotless netting
  • Mesh size: 100mm
  • Border rope: 12mm Polysteel
  • Identification: tag and traceable number on every net
  • Colour: green as standard; blue, black, white, orange and red on custom orders
  • Origin: produced in Europe

Construction

The knotless construction removes the knots found in traditional netting, so a load is spread through the mesh instead of concentrating at individual knot points. The reinforced 12mm Polysteel border rope makes the net easier to handle and fix, and takes the wear that comes from repeated rigging and de-rigging.

Every net carries an identification tag and a traceable number. This lets a site log each net individually in its inspection and handover records, which is useful when nets are moved between lifts or reused on later phases.

Sizes and colours

This page covers the System S net in the 5mm x 100mm mesh specification. Individual sizes are listed separately, from 2m wide up to 10m wide with lengths between 5m and 20m. Other dimensions can be supplied on request. Green is the standard colour, and the custom colours are useful where nets need to be told apart by zone, level or project phase.

Fitting and use

Fixing points, permitted fall height and the clearance needed below the net depend on how it is installed. They should be set out in a rigging plan prepared by a competent person and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Inspect the net before use and after any fall.

Typical uses

The net is used for steel erection, roofing and infrastructure works, where an open edge or fragile surface leaves no practical place for permanent edge protection. Contractors choose it when a net below the work area is a better fit than guardrails or personal restraint.

What sizes does the System S safety net come in?

Listed sizes run from 2m to 10m wide and from 5m to 20m long, for example 5 x 10m, 7 x 15m or 10 x 15m. Different dimensions can be requested if your work area does not match a listed size.

Can a safety net be used instead of harnesses?

A net is a collective measure that protects everyone working above it without individual connection. In Great Britain, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 give collective protection priority over personal protection where it is practicable. Whether a net suits a particular task is decided in the risk assessment and method statement.

Who should install the net?

Installation should be carried out by trained riggers working to a plan prepared by a competent person. Fixing points, fall height and clearance below the net are specific to each installation and are covered by the manufacturer's instructions.

What is the identification tag for?

Each net has a tag and a traceable number. This allows individual nets to be recorded in site inspection logs and tracked from one project or lift to the next.

Can I order a colour other than green?

Yes. Green is standard, and blue, black, white, orange and red are available on custom orders. Colour coding is often used to separate nets by level or work zone on larger sites.
